YOUR GARDEN JOURNAL
Just
for fun, let's make a Garden Journal using recycled materials.
YOU
WILL NEED
One empty cereal box at least 9x12 inches
A pair of scissors
Stickers or cutouts of vegetables
One large white label for your name
Glue
Wax paper
A heavy weight like a telephone book
A paper punch
A few pages of notepaper (8.5x11")
Raffia or an old boot lace - a nice long one
WHAT
TO DO
1.
Carefully cut off the top, sides and bottom of the box. Recycle
those bits but keep the rest. This will give you two equal sized
pieces of card for the front and back cover of your journal. (If
your box is really big, trim these to 9x11.5 inches)
2.
Choose stickers or pictures of fruits and vegetables and cut those
out neatly. These will be used to cover up the printed sides of
the journal covers.
3.
Put your name and the title on the white label and decide where
that will go on the front cover. Don't stick it on yet.
4.
Plan how you will arrange the pictures on the cover and keep in
mind that the label will go on the front cover too.
5.
When you are satisfied with your design, glue the stickers or pictures
onto the covers. Leave your name label 'til last.
6.
Put your covers on a flat surface, pictures facing upwards. Cover
with wax paper and put a heavy weight on top. Leave over night for
the glue to dry. (The wax paper will stop the glue sticking to the
telephone book!)
7.
Use the paper punch, make two holes in the left hand margin of your
covers and matching holes in the plain paper.
8.
Create your title page. Use your imagination!
9.
Assemble your journal with a title page and some blank pages and
thread the bootlace or raffia through the hole. Tie a bow on the
front.
CONGRATULATIONS. YOU NOW HAVE YOUR OWN GARDEN
JOURNAL JUST LIKE THOMAS JEFFEERSON.
HAPPY
HARVESTING!
